Welcome to Joe's Place is a once-a-month snap-shot of my Ham radio life (and a few other topics) spanning over 12 years. What humbly began as a one-time-only article for our local Ham club's newsletter, evolved into an every month article. As time went by, members actually told me they looked forward to seeing what I would come up with next. (It's true There's no accouting for taste)
Since that first Joe’s Place article was written, I have learned and re-learned some things. Please read this work for enjoyment and not as a reference book. (I know, it’s hard even for me to believe I ever made a mistake)
Many of the articles were written tongue-in-cheek (that was my intention, anyway). Hopefully, readers will be able to tell which ones those are. The rest, mostly technical, can be taken seriously but with a dash of salt. I hope you all enjoy reading these stories as much as I enjoyed writing them.

You are SO lucky! It took the faithful readers of the DELARA (Delaware (Ohio) Amateur Radio Association) 12 whole years of monthly anticipation to see what words of wisdom or shenanigans K8MP cooks up in his column. It's a page turner, it is a book after all. Page 135, he reveals what antenna he chose to take on their trip to Hatteras Island. And who couldn't forget him winning the WATV (Worked All Television Sets) award from the FCC, page 246, scrambling the screens of the neighbor's black-n-whites. Including the numerous accounts of his prowess as a hot-shot CW contester - he's a machine!

Old guys like Joe, rambling on about his many years enjoying the fabulous hobby of ham radio, are easy to find. But Joe put pen to paper (or was it chisel to stone?) for all to imbibe. It is a very good compilation, fun to read and well worth the price of a Starbucks Grande. Best of all, when you get tired of him reminiscing like your crazy uncle during Thanksgiving, you can put it down for a breather. I keep my copy in easy reach by the toilet paper holder. What a way to start the day!

Joe is a great guy and we're lucky to have him as part of the ham community. His monthly diary about the hobby, and life in general, will prove to be a valuable testament about the Amateur Radio Service for years to come. Buy it!
